Himalayan Pink Salt Body Scrub Recipe (2024)

Himalayan Pink Salt Body Scrub Recipe (1)

You've probably heard that Himalayan pink salt is great for your health, but did you know it's good for your skin, too? When used in a body scrub, it provides some serious exfoliation. And this is a good thing because our skin is constantly changing and dead skin cells build up over time. This may cause the skin to look dull and feel rough, dry, and/or flaky. Exfoliation solves all of this. It removes dead skin cells, leaving skin brighter, smoother, and more vibrant. Besides the natural benefits of exfoliation, many people find it a very invigorating practice. It's a great way to start your day or even re-energize yourself in the afternoon.

Why Use a Himalayan Pink Salt Body Scrub?

Many exfoliating scrubs are made with sugar, which is a wonderful option (check out our recipe for a refreshing coconut sugar body scrub!). However, the natural grit of salt provides a next-level cleanse for your body, removing dead skin cells more aggressively. This makes it a very effective body scrub. It’s also one that’s best used infrequently (no more than once a week).

When you use Wildly Organic’s Himalayan Pink Salt for your scrub, the added minerals in it can provide some extra skin-enhancing benefits. These trace minerals may help reduce inflammation and detoxify the skin. Their detoxifying nature may also contribute to the removal of toxins that clog your skin pores*.

How to Make the Body Scrub

Here are two methods for making and using your body scrubs. You can use one to make the scrub ahead of time and keep it (or gift it) in a jar, while the other one is meant for one-time use.

Method 1 — Oil-Based Himalayan Pink Salt Scrub Recipe

This first method combines the nourishing properties of Wildly Organic's Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil with the exfoliating action of salt. The result is a super-luxurious body scrub. Coconut oil tends to solidify as it cools, which is why this scrub has a "whipped" texture, making it easy to apply.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fine Wildly Organic Himalayan Pink Salt
  • 1/2 cup Wildly Organic coconut oil
  • 1-2 tablespoons Wildly Organic olive oil
  • 5 drops of essential oil (such as geranium, grapefruit, or lavender)

Instructions:

  1. Melt the coconut oil.
  2. Combine melted oil with salt in a bowl and stir the mixture.
  3. Add the olive oil. Keep stirring the scrub from time to time as the coconut oil cools and hardens. It won't solidify completely but should form a nice thick texture.

To use:

Apply a small amount of the Himalayan salt scrub in circular motions. It's important that you apply it gently as the salt is quite abrasive. Wash it off with warm water. Do not use it on sunburned, windburned, or broken skin.

Use this as a simple hand and foot scrub, or give yourself a full body treatment for some serious self-care. Just be sure to use caution as the shower can become very slippery. It's also a good idea to wipe the shower after you’re done so as to not create a hazard for the next person who uses it!

Method 2 — Single-Use Himalayan Pink Salt Scrub Recipe

The quick version of this method is this: dampen the salt slightly and apply it directly (and gently) to damp skin in circular motions. In spa-terms, this is referred to as a “salt glow.” In fact, it's one of the most popular spa treatments around! Luckily, you can replicate it at home for a fraction of the cost.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups fine Wildly Organic Himalayan Pink Salt
  • ¼ cup water or Wildly Organic oil

Instructions:

  1. Pour the salt into a bowl and add ¼ cup water or oil to dampen it.
  2. Stir to combine.

To use:

Stand in the shower or bathtub and wet your body briefly by running the shower. Turn the shower off before proceeding with the salt glow. Using fingertips, rub salt gently over skin in circular motions, beginning at your toes and moving all the way up to your shoulders (avoid the face and other delicate parts). Finally, shower off to remove the salt. Follow up with moisturizer, body oil, or body butter. Remember that scrubs should not be used on skin that is broken, sunburned, or windburned.
